Salve!
We got behind on our newsletter. So, we have a lot to get to. First, we’d like to make some announcements about general academy etiquette and rules that we have gotten away from during the course of the pandemic. As we are coming out of it and people are beginning to come back to training, we need to refocus on the structure of the academy.
Personal Hygiene
We’ve had issues and complaints about students’ body odor and personal hygiene. Please make sure you are washing yourself, your children, and/or your uniform/training attire regularly. Trim your nails to keep from scratching your training partners. Only wear clean clothes while training because dirty attire will only smell worse while you sweat. We have a very confined space and are in close contact with each other during the training. We need to be respectful of others’ comfort and should not subject them to inhaling our stink! If it continues, you will be warned and you will be asked not to train until you address it.
Appropriate Attire
If you have a uniform, you should wear that EVERY class. If you don’t, make sure you are wearing athletic attire until you get the uniform (which should be within a month if we have them available). No jeans or slacks allowed. If you do not have training attire, you will not be allowed to train. We do have ample sun-stained uniforms that are allowed for training (not for events) that we are selling at a discount ($20 Pants $5 Shirt). Contact us for details.
Arrive on Time
We usually try to start class within 10 minutes of the scheduled class time. We haven’t been the best at this, but we will return to it. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you will not be allowed to train. That means on the floor, dressed, and ready to train, not walking in the door 15 minutes after. Have respect for your classmates, the teacher, and the class. Show up on time. We only have 2 changing rooms and one is the only bathroom. Please change as fast as you can to allow others to get changed. After kids’ class, everyone will be fighting for a changing room. So, arrive before your class begins and get changed while you wait.
Batizado 2022
Due to the pandemic, we have not had a batizado since 2019. That means a lot of overdue promotions and a major need for a batizado event!
When: September 9-11, 2022
Mark your calendars and save the dates. Mestre Barrão finally makes his return to the United States after 3 long years without his presence. This years event will revolve strictly around capoeira training and workshops. There will be no theater performance, but we won’t rule out a small pre-batizado performance. More details to come!
Upcoming Events
These are some upcoming events where Contramestre Bambu will be in attendance. We encourage everyone to attend as many events as possible!
